TLLG was established in 2017 by a group of environmental and social experts with an interest in supporting the development of nature-based solutions to global environmental and humanitarian challenges. Our team of experts continues to expand enabling us to support a growing number of projects and programmes at all stages of their development including design, implementation, evaluation, and applying lessons learned.

We provide support across three thematic areas:

  • Natural Climate Solutions - protection, restoration, and improved land management actions that increase carbon storage and/or avoid greenhouse gas emissions from forests, wetlands, grasslands, and agricultural lands.

  • Forest and Landscape Restoration –restoring ecological functionality and enhancing human well-being across deforested or degraded forest landscapes.

  • Biodiversity Conservation – protecting and preserving species, habitats, ecosystems, and genetic diversity.

TLLG are currently working with a range of projects and programmes on the application of environmental and social safeguards to initiatives within these thematic areas. This includes but is not limited design and development of Environmental and Social Due Diligences (ESDDs), Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), and the development of safeguard plans. TLLG also supports companies and Conservation Trust Funds to design and develop an Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) and apply this in practice. Increasingly, TLLG is providing training and technical support to organisations and teams in these areas.

As one of the key risks of ecosystem management projects is related to access restrictions, TLLG often conducts assessments related to the potential impacts of access restrictions, and the feasibility of mitigation measures. This requires expertise in conducting livelihood feasibility assessments, assessing existing livelihood interventions, market-based assessments, and experience in livelihood development programming. Candidates with this expertise are encouraged to apply.

We are looking for freelance consultants to join our project teams. We have roles for Senior Consultants, most often as Team Leaders, and Consultants, most often as Team Members. We are particularly looking for candidates living and working in the regions where TLLG projects are implemented (see TLLG Projects). For the right candidates, there are opportunities for progression within TLLG to Associate and Partner level.

Consultant Responsibilities:

Consultants are often Team Members and take a leading role in areas of project development relevant to their expertise, with oversight from a Team Leader. Typical activities will vary depending on the assignment but can include supporting the screening of projects, the preparation of environmental and social impact assessments, conducting these assessments, and input into the preparation of safeguard plans. Technical support will be provided by TLLG Partners and Associates as needed. Activities will also include client calls, working closely with the project proponents, and often includes fieldwork.

Consultants will develop an understanding of the context of the project proponent and the needs of the assignment in terms of the international standards and national legislation, and support the Team Leader to develop and implement a technical support package that results in the required assessment or plans.
