IUCN Environmental and Social Management System Training, Thailand

In March TLLG supported the IUCN safeguards team with a training of IUCN staff from the Asia Regional Office and from country offices in the Asia region. The training focused on the application of IUCN’s Environmental and Social Management System, including the screening, assessment and monitoring of risks and impacts associated with conservation projects. The ESMS has been developed to support IUCN and partners avoid conservation impacts related to issues of involuntary resettlement and access restrictions and impacts on indigenous peoples and cultural heritage. TLLG provided practical examples of project design based on stakeholder engagement, how to take into account community land and resource use and customary practices, and methods to assess these risks with communities prior to project implementation.

Client: IUCN

Duration: March 2019
